Marlborough Wine Tour Prices in 2026: What Each Fare Buys

There is no entry fee for Marlborough wine country, so the fare is the ticket, and fares here differ by nine to one. The difference is mostly what the fare pays at the cellar door and at lunch, not the wine. This guide takes each format in turn, then the extras, then value. Is there an entry fee for Marlborough wine country?

No. Marlborough has no gate, no park fee and no regional ticket. Each cellar door sets its own tasting fee, or pours free. So there are only two costs: how you get between the cellar doors, and the tastings. A van tour folds both into one fare. A bike or a car leaves the tastings to you.

The table sets every format side by side. The last column divides a sample fare by the hours it lasts, which is the quickest way to see what you pay for.

What does a bike day cost?

The full-day bike hire costs $37, the lowest fare in the region. You get the bike, a helmet, a lock and a map, from Rapaura Road or central Blenheim. Add the tasting fees, around NZ$10 at each cellar door that charges, and lunch.

The self-guided bike day costs $40 and adds free pickup from Blenheim and Renwick plus bottle service. Its listing does not mention tasting fees, so budget for them. The guided bike day costs $130 and pays the three morning tastings; the afternoon's are yours.

So a bike day really costs about $37 plus NZ$40 of tastings plus lunch. It is still the cheapest day out, just not by as much as the fare suggests.

What does a half-day tour cost?

From $98 to $121, for three to five hours and three or four cellar doors with the tastings in the fare. The cheapest is the Kiwi Holiday Tours half-day at $98, with four wines at each stop and nine guests at most. The Hop n Grape half-days cost a little more, and one of them names its cellar doors in advance.

A half-day costs more by the hour than a full day, because the van and the guide cost the same however short the day. It costs less in total, and it leaves your afternoon free.

What does a full day cost?

A full day with lunch at your own cost runs from $124 to $159, for about six hours and four to six cellar doors. Beyond the Vines, the most-reviewed day in the region, costs $127. The Hop n Grape winemakers' day costs $124 and names its stops: Lawson's Dry Hills, Allan Scott, Ant Moore and Framingham, with lunch at Saint Clair.

These are the lowest prices per hour of any day in a van: $19 an hour on the winemakers' day and $21 on Beyond the Vines.

What does lunch add?

If you pay for it yourself, a main at a winery restaurant runs about NZ$25-40, the figure one Hop n Grape listing gives. Most full days stop at a winery for lunch at your own cost, and several afternoon half-days have no lunch stop.

If you want it in the fare, the price rises. The Marlborough Tour Company full day, with a two-course lunch and winemaker-hosted tastings, costs $220. The Gourmet Gold day, with a two-course lunch at Saint Clair and a Cloudy Bay tasting, costs $340 and takes six guests at most. The wine-and-cruise day, with a light lunch and seafood on the boat, costs $185.

Those fares buy more than lunch: smaller groups, hosted tastings, or a cruise. If lunch is all you want, a day at $127 plus a NZ$40 main costs less.

Which fares pay the tasting fees?

Every van fare: the half-days, the full days, the shore excursions and the private day. The listings name it in different words, but you do not pay at the counter.

On the bikes it varies. The bike hire leaves the fees out, the guided bike day pays the morning only, and the self-guided day with pickup does not say. That is the one line to read before you compare a bike fare with a van fare.

What does a Picton pickup add?

It depends on the tour. Some include it: Beyond the Vines and the Marlborough Wine Tours afternoon collect you in central Picton at no extra charge, as do the Sounds Connection days. The shore excursions meet you at the Picton i-SITE.

Others charge. The Hop n Grape days quote NZ$20-55 a person, paid on the day, for pickups outside their Blenheim and Renwick zone, including Picton. The Marlborough Tour Company full day and its wine-and-cruise day sell a Picton pickup as an add-on, with a surcharge, subject to availability. What does a shore excursion cost?

From $150 to $173, for four to six hours ashore with four or five wineries, a chocolate tasting and the tastings in the fare. That is more than a regular half-day of the same length, and you are paying for the timing: the excursion meets the ship's shuttle and is scheduled round your port hours.

Jade's shore excursion costs $173 and books two guests or more. The Discovery Wine Tours excursion takes adults only.

Where is the best value?

For the lowest total, a bike: $37 plus tastings. For the lowest price per hour with the tastings paid, a full day with lunch at your own cost, around $21 an hour. For an easy afternoon, the Kiwi Holiday Tours half-day at $98.

For a treat, the Gourmet Gold day at $340 puts everything in one fare: Cloudy Bay, Allan Scott and Clos Henri, a two-course lunch at Saint Clair and chocolate at Makana, with six guests at most. You pay once and never open your wallet again until you buy a bottle.

The private day costs $228 a person, so a full van of four pays $915. It is the value choice only if you want the van to yourselves.
